Is Coffee Healthy For You?

If you love (or, let's be honest, are addicted) to coffee, you are not alone.

It is a habit that many people cherish. The ritual of having a coffee in the morning or meeting up with people and having a coffee is beloved by many.

The health effects of coffee, however, are controversial.

Is Coffee Healthy For you?

Recent studies bring good news for people's favorite morning beverage, showing that coffee does show positive health benefits.

Coffee has many nutrients, but the one that really shows its self is antioxidants. Did you know that coffee shows more antioxidant activity than green tea!

An article in One Medical explores how the antioxidants found in coffee "fight inflammation, an underlying cause of many chronic conditions, including arthritis, atherosclerosis, and many cancer types. They also neutralize free radicals, which occur naturally as a part of everyday metabolic functions, but can cause oxidative stress that leads to chronic disease.

According to the Mayo Clinic, "Studies have shown that coffee may have health benefits, including protecting against Parkinson's disease, type 2 diabetes and liver disease, including liver cancer. Coffee also appears to improve cognitive function and decrease the risk of depression."

Health experts warn to stay away from or at least limit the number of things such as full-fat dairy products, sugar, syrups, as this is where coffee can become unhealthy. Full-fat dairy products are considered unhealthy in large amounts as they are full of saturated fats. Saturated fats have been linked to health issues such as high cholesterol, leading to a higher risk of heart disease or stroke.
